Stage is Set
South Carolina will be heavily represented at the NCAA Championship this year under the direction of second-year head coach Tim Hall. The men will compete in four events, all field events. Meanwhile, the women will compete in a grand total of eight events, including six semifinal races on the track.

The women are heavily represented by the sprints group with Zaya Akins, JaMeesia Ford, Cynteria James and Jayla Jamison accounting for five different semifinal events. The quartet will make up both the 4x100m relay and the 4x400m relay, while individually they will run as follows: Akins (400m), Ford (100m, 200m), James (100m, 200m), Jamison (200m). Among the four sprinters, there are a combined nine outdoor All-American honors. Salma Elbadra is making her NCAA Outdoor Championship debut in the 1500m semifinal on Thursday. Cameran Gist and Cheyla Scott are the lone two female field athletes for South Carolina, competing in the triple jump (Gist) and the high jump (Scott) on Saturday. Scott finished seventh at this meet last season and looks to improve on that mark.

The men’s squad will see five athletes compete across four events. Wednesday will feature Channing Ferguson in the long jump, while CJ Licata and Dylan Targgart will take part in the shot put. Friday’s action will be Ferguson and Nate Figgers in the high jump, with Theo Mudzengerere taking part in the triple jump. Ferguson doubled as a Second Team All-American last year at this meet, doing so in the long jump and the high jump. The shot put duo of Licata and Targgart return with unfinished business from the 2024 NCAA Championship, where Targgart came away with bronze and Licata was named a Second Team All-American. Figgers and Mudzengerere are in Eugene for the first time in Gamecock uniforms. Mudzengerere earned Honorable Mention All-American status in 2023 with TCU.
