Three Gamecocks to Play in FIBA Women’s AmeriCup

COLUMBIA, S.C. – When the 2025 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup tips off in Santiago, Chile, on Sat., June 28, fans can support three South Carolina women’s basketball entries from two countries. Rising sophomore Joyce Edwards will represent the United States, while Brazil will combine the past and the future with alumna Kamilla Cardoso and incoming freshman Ayla McDowell on its roster.

Edwards is making her third appearance on the international stage after helping the U.S. to gold medals in the2024 FIBA U18 AmeriCup, at which she was named MVP, and the 2023 FIBA U19 World Cup. Cardoso’s international resume is vast, highlighted by a gold medal and MVP honors at the 2023 FIBA AmeriCup and the 2022 FIBA South America Championships. McDowell has played for Brazil in the 2024 FIBA U18 AmeriCup where it advanced to the semifinals.

Action in the Parque Estadio Nacional begins with five days of group play. Brazil is in Group A, facing Argentina on Saturday (2:10 p.m. ET), Canada on Monday (2:10 p.m. ET), Dominican Republic on Tuesday (11:40 a.m. ET) and El Salvador on Wednesday (11:40 a.m. ET). In Group B, the U.S.’s slate is Chile on Saturday (8:25 p.m. ET), Colombia on Sunday (8:10 p.m. ET), Puerto Rico on Monday (8:10 p.m.) ET and Mexico on Wednesday (2:10 p.m. ET). After pool play, the top four teams from each group will play in Friday’s semifinals, followed by the semifinals on Saturday and the medal games on Sunday.
