Gamecocks Mourn Passing of Dave DeCamilla

University of South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame member and former Gamecock football all-conference player Dave DeCamilla has passed away at the age of 77.

DeCamilla anchored the offensive line for coach Paul Dietzel’s Gamecocks from 1968-70 and was named first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference in both 1969 and 1970 and was honorable mention All-America as a senior.  He helped lead Carolina to the 1969 ACC Championship.

DeCamilla was listed as the 11th best Gamecock football player of all-time in a 2017 ranking in The State newspaper and was named to USC’s All-Time Football Team in 2009.  He entered the USC Athletics Hall of Fame in 2013.

In an interview in The State in 2009, DeCamilla recounted his offensive line experience, “I had, I think, one offside in my career.  I still remember it: a punt against Virginia Tech.”

The Hudson Falls, N.Y. native earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from USC in 1970 and went on to receive his Master of Arts degree in Labor and Industrial Relations from Michigan State University in 1971.

Since 1998, he had served as President and Chief Investment Officer at DeCamilla Capital Management, LLC in Sacramento, Cal.

Dave DeCamilla is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jean, and their daughter Emily, along with brothers JB and Mark. Funeral services are pending.
