Gamecocks Set for ACC Tests Against NC State, North Carolina
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina volleyball team (3-3) continues its season facing two North Carolina programs this week, splitting the slate with one road match and one at home.
The Gamecocks first face NC State (4-1) on the road for the inaugural Showdown at the Net, which features 16 matches between SEC and ACC schools. First serve is set for 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 10 at the James T. Valvano Arena at William Neal Reynolds Coliseum in Raleigh, North Carolina. South Carolina rounds out competition for the week on Friday, Sept. 12 at home with its fourth ACC opponent of the season, welcoming an undefeated No. 25 North Carolina (4-0) for a 6:00 p.m. match at the Carolina Volleyball Center. The Gamecocks are looking to bounce back after a pair of road losses last weekend in Tampa, Florida. South Carolina first fell 3-0 to Florida State on Saturday before dropping their match 3-1 against USF on Sunday. Senior Alayna Johnson was the top performer for the offense, tallying 26 total kills across both games. Against both opponents she was in the double-digits which included a season high 16 kills against USF, only one off of her career best. Nia Hall was a big asset as well in the Florida State match, adding a team leading 13 kills for her fourth match with a double-digit stat in that category. Sarah Jordan contributed at the net with a season high 36 assists in the USF game, doubling her previous season best. Victoria Harris backed the defense with a combined 20 digs.
