Gamecocks+ Set To Release "Black Magic" Series

In the early 1980s, South Carolina football was searching for an identity, a program hungry for respect on the national stage. Under second-year head coach Joe Morrison, the 1984 Gamecocks did just that, starting a cultural shift in Columbia and leading fans on a journey they’d never forget.

“Black Magic: The Story of the 1984 Gamecocks” is an original series by Gamecocks+ that will take fans through the historic season through the eyes of players, journalists and lifelong fans. Part one will be unlocked (free) for everyone on Tuesday, October 7.

A four-part series, each episode will walk you through the quiet, high intensity of Morrison and the magical games that turned into one of the best seasons in program history. Part One will premiere on Tuesday, October 7, followed by Part Two on Tuesday, November 11. The final two episodes will be released simultaneously in December. Part One: A Rise to Relevancy sets the stage with the arrival of Coach Morrison, and the retelling of a shaky opening act against the Citadel that hinted at the unforgettable storm to come. From the success and the infamous letdown, to Black Magic and the Chicken Curse, relive the story like never before.
