Volleyball Faces Oklahoma and Arkansas on the Road, Seeks First SEC Win
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina volleyball team (6-8, 0-4 SEC) continues conference play on the road this week, heading to Oklahoma (11-3, 3-1 SEC) on Friday, Oct. 10 for an 8:00 p.m. (ET) first serve before concluding the week at Arkansas (5-10, 1-3 SEC) for a 4:00 p.m. (ET) match on Sunday, Oct. 12.

WEEK SIX NOTABLES
- The Gamecocks look to pick up their first conference win of the season as they are currently 0-4 in SEC play after facing two opponents on the road and two at home
- South Carolina hosted No. 9 Texas A&M for its SEC home opener last week, picking up a set win in the 3-1 loss to the Aggies
- The Gamecocks fought down to the wire against the Aggies in the first set, pushing the score into extra points where it ultimately ended with Texas A&M edging out South Carolina 31-29. Throughout the set there were six lead changes and 14 tied scores
- South Carolina carried the momentum into the second set and strung together a 25-20 win, which marked the team’s second time defeating a ranked opponent in the second set this season. The Gamecocks battled in the third set, only falling 25-21, but trailed off in the final set 25-13
- Two Gamecocks set new career highs – Emily Beeker with nine blocks and Kaia Pixler with 20 digs. Victoria Harris had her fourth match of the season in the 20s for digs and seventh consecutive game in double digits at 22. Nia Hall led the offense with 16 kills
- The Garnet & Black rounded out the week against Georgia in a close match where the Gamecocks offense led the charge, out-killing the Bulldogs 50-46 and featuring three players in double-digit kills
- The game was evenly played with both teams finishing with the same number of digs and no more than a two-point difference in aces, blocks, total points and errors
- Similar to the match against the Aggies, the Gamecocks won the second set in a comfortable 25-12 victory. Each of the remaining sets were decided by four points or fewer
- Alayna Johnson led the offense with 16 kills, matching her season high and marking her ninth game of the season with double digits. For the second match of the week another Gamecock, Ava Leahy, had nine blocks which tied her career high
- For current offensive statistical leaders – Nia Hall leads in kills with 177 (3.34 per set) and points with 194.5 (3.67 per set), Sarah Jordan leads in assists with 257 (5.59 per set) and Alayna Johnson leads in aces with 17 (0.32 per set). For current defensive statistical leaders – Victoria Harris leads in digs with 205 (3.87 digs per set) and Emily Beeker leads in blocks with 56 (1.08 per set)
SCOUTING THE SOONERS
Oklahoma is riding on a two-game win streak, entering Fridays match after upsetting then-No. 21 Missouri 3-2 on the road. Alexis Shelton leads the offense with 196 (3.56 per set) kills this season. The senior recently picked up her second SEC weekly honor of the season on Monday as she was named Co-Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Sooners to the victory against Missouri with a season-high 25 kills (which ranks fifth in the SEC) and .564 hitting percentage (which ranks fourth in the SEC). Avaya Maga leads in assists with 329 (5.98 per set) and Emoni Bush leads in aces with 21 on the season. On the defensive side, Dionii Fraga has dished out 158 digs this season (2.87 per set) and KJ Burgess has 67 blocks (1.22 per set). The Gamecocks and Sooners have only faced each other six times in program history and South Carolina leads the series record 4-2. The last matchup between the teams was in October of 2024 when South Carolina won 3-1 at home.
SCOUTING THE RAZORBACKS
The Razorbacks picked up their first SEC win in the conference opener against Ole Miss in a 3-2 victory two weeks ago before going on a three-game losing streak, most recently falling 3-0 to Vanderbilt on the road. They will face Georgia before playing the Gamecocks on Sunday. Parker Duncan is Arkansas’ current top kill leader with 218 on the season (3.96 per set). Kiki Remensperger is one of the top setters in the conference, ranking third for total assists at 577 and fifth for assists per set at 9.62. She has four marks that rank in the top 10 in the SEC for number of assists in five set matches with her highest tab coming at No. 3 with 57 assists against Arkansas. Remensperger also leads the team in aces and digs, tallying 15 and 156 thus far, respectively. Journey Peppers has the highest number of blocks on the team this season with 54, averaging .90 per set. Arkansas leads the series record with South Carolina 34-14, currently on a seven-match win streak. The last time the two faced each other, the Gamecocks fell 3-0 in Fayetteville.
