No. 2 Equestrian Travels to Tennessee for a Double Header

BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. – No. 2 South Carolina Equestrian (3-1, 1-1) remains on the road for a doubleheader in Martin, Tennessee, against South Dakota State (2-2, 2-1) and UT Martin (1-1, 1-1). The Gamecocks will compete in Flat and Reining against SDSU at 2:40 p.m. on Friday, and pick back up with Fences and Horsemanship at 10 a.m. on Saturday. South Carolina will wrap up the day with a full meet against UT Martin following the conclusion of their previous meet.

LAST TIME OUT

The Gamecocks had their first road meet of the season in Athens, G.A., last weekend (Oct. 24) against Georgia and UC Davis. South Carolina fell in its first loss of the season to No. 1 Georgia, 13-6. Despite the loss, the Gamecocks earned three of four MOPs available. Sophomore Amira Kettaneh took home the honors for both Flat and Fences, while junior Alexis Potts earned the Horsemanship MOP for the first of her career.

The Gamecocks quickly found their way back into the win column with a 12-4 victory over UC Davis. Once again, South Carolina picked up three MOP honors, with Kettaneh earning another for Flat, sophomore Natalie Jayne in Fences, and Ruby Voortmeyer earning one in Horsemanship for the first of her career. South Carolina swept the scoring in Horsemanship and Flat, 4-0 each.

SCOUTING THE JACKRABBITS

Friday’s meet will be the 11th in program history, with the Gamecocks leading the series 9-1 overall. The two teams last met in Blythewood during the 2024 season when the Gamecocks won 15-3 (Mar. 1). The Jackrabbits’ lone victory came in 2017 when they hosted South Carolina and won 15-4 (Oct. 13).

SDSU started the 2025-26 season with wins over Minnesota Crookston (16-4) and UT Martin (10-7), but has lost its last two meets against Fresno State (15-4) and UC Davis (12-7).

SCOUTING THE SKYHAWKS

Saturday’s meet will also be the 11th in program history. South Carolina is 10-0 in the all-time series and will look to remain undefeated this weekend. The two teams last met on March 8th in Blythewood when the Gamecocks earned an 11-7 win. Returners Jayne, Kettaneh, and Haley Turner won MOP honors during the meet. South Carolina is 5-0 when visiting Martin on the road.

UT Martin defeated Minnesota-Crookston 10-6 to open the season, but is getting back into action after falling in their last meet, 10-7 to SDSU on October 4th. The Skyhawks will compete against SDSU once again on Friday (Oct. 31) before matching up with the Gamecocks on Saturday (Nov. 1).
