Track & Field Earns 12 All-SEC Honors

COLUMBIA, S.C. (March 3, 2026) – Just a few days removed from the 2026 SEC Indoor Track & Field Championships, the league office announced its three All-SEC teams. The criteria for All-SEC Teams are as follows: First Team (gold medalist), Second Team (silver medalist) and Third Team (bronze medalist). The Gamecocks placed 12 individuals on the All-SEC teams this indoor season.

Nine different Gamecocks earned First Team All-SEC honors, including eight from the distance medley relay squads. The women’s DMR team of Eline Mast, Akala Garrett, Sylvia Chelangat and Salma Elbadra earned First Team honors after becoming the first Gamecock women’s DMR squad to win an SEC Indoor Championship gold medal. The quartet ran a program record time of 10:45.64, ranking sixth overall in the NCAA this season. Elbadra also won an individual event, capturing the program’s first ever gold medal in the women’s mile after crossing the line in 4:30.72.

The men’s DMR team of Edouard Lecrivain, Andrew Salvodon, Kaleb Burroughs and Jaouad Khchina each earned First Team All-SEC accolades after capturing the gold medal with the second fastest time in program history at 9:30.08. The quartet became the second Gamecock men’s DMR squad in the last three years to win the gold medal at the SEC Indoor Championship. Individually, Khchina also placed third overall in the men’s mile as he earned bronze with a time of 4:02.99.

The final Gamecock to earn First Team All-SEC honors from an individual standpoint was pole vaulter Jathiyah Muhammad. The Arizona transfer had a strong showing for the Gamecocks at the SEC Indoor Championship, becoming the first female South Carolina athlete to capture the women’s pole vault title since 1999 when she cleared 4.40m (14-5.25).

A trio of Gamecock women earned spots on the Second Team All-SEC as Zaya Akins, JaMeesia Ford and Cynteria James received the recognition for their parts in the 4×400 meter relay, while Ford also finished runner-up in the 200m. The trio, joined by First Team All-SEC honoree Akala Garrett, turned in a relay time of 3:26.85 for the runner-up finish and the second fastest mark in school history. Ford individually earned the silver medal in the 200m finale, crossing the line in 22.61.
