No. 22 Gamecocks Win Pair of Top-20 Matches at Old Barnwell

South Carolina took fifth with a 3-2 win over No. 18 Florida State on Sunday and a 4.5-0.5 victory today over No. 17 Ole Miss
AIKEN S.C. – No. 22 South Carolina finished fifth at the 2026 Old Barnwell Derby Match Play on Tuesday going 2-1 in matches with a pair of top-20 wins. The Gamecocks defeated No. 17 Ole Miss 4.5-0.5 today and No. 18 Florida State 3-2 on day one of the third edition of the annual event.
The first two matches for each team took place on Sunday as inclement weather canceled play on Monday.
Junior Maylis Lamoure had a perfect week going 3-0 in matches. She won 6&5 today and trailed for just nine holes in her three matches. Sophomore Eila Galitsky was 2-1 in her matches with a dominant 6&5 win over Ole Miss’ Kajsalotta Svarvar today.
Senior Mia Sandtorv Lussand was also 2-1 with a dominate 7&5 win Sunday against the Seminoles. Lamoure and junior Vai Heck each posted 1-up wins against Florida State to push Carolina to victory.
Freshman Molly McLean made four birdies today en route to a 3&2 win over Ole Miss’ Mary Miller. It was the match clincher for the team win and also marked her first career match play victory at South Carolina.
The Gamecocks fell to No. 8 Wake Forest 3-2 in their opening match on Sunday. Heck dropped a tight one in the deciding match on the first extra hole as the Deacs’ Morgan Ketchum made birdie at the par-3 17th. Lamoure won 4&3 and Galitsky was victorious 4&2 against Wake Forest.
No. 5 Auburn defeated No. 11 Duke in the championship match 3-2 this afternoon for its fifth win of the season. Full match results from the three rounds of the tournament are available via Clippd here.
