Track & Field Opens Season at Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational

CONWAY, S.C. (Mar. 17, 2026) – South Carolina Track & Field will head to the coast this week to compete in the three-day Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational in Conway, S.C. This will be the first outdoor meet for the 2026 season.

Meet Information
The Shamrock Invitational, hosted at the Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium, will begin on Thursday and continue through Saturday. Thursday will lead off with a handful of field events, beginning with the heptathlon at 1:00 pm, while concluding with the women’s 10,000m at 7:45 pm. Competition on Friday will begin at 9 a.m. with the men’s decathlon 110-meter hurdles and the first field event being the women’s heptathlon long jump at 9:30 a.m. The day will be rounded out with the men’s and women’s 5000m starting with the women at 5 p.m. and the men at 5:30 p.m. Saturday will also begin with field events at 9:00 a.m. followed by track events starting at 10:00 a.m. As per usual, the competition will conclude with the 4x400m relay on Saturday night, beginning with the women at 4:55 p.m. and the men at 5:15 p.m.

The Gamecocks will be sending a total of 31 athletes to Conway, 19 from the women’s team and 12 from the men’s team. South Carolina will be joined by teams across the region, including UNC Wilmington, Coastal Carolina and UCONN.

The season opening event will also be a scored event with teams competing for the title at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational.

Building Momentum
The Gamecocks concluded the indoor season last week after competing in the NCAA Indoor Championship in Fayetteville, Ark. The men’s team finished tied for seventh, while the women finished solo eighth as both teams recorded Top 10 national finishes for the first time since 2005. Most notably, the men’s 4x400m relay captured the program’s first ever gold medal courtesy of Josiah Wrice, Jasauna Dennis, Devan Crumpton and Andrew Salvodon with a time of 3:02.07. In addition, the women’s DMR team earned second place with a time of 10:49.69 off the efforts of Eline Mast, Akala Garrett, Sylvia Chelangat and Salma Elbadra.
