No. 20 Beach Volleyball Splits Matches on Final Day of March to May Tournament

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The No. 20 South Carolina beach volleyball team split results on the final day of the March to May Tournament in Birmingham, Ala. The Gamecocks defeated Austin Peay 5-0 but fell to UAB 3-2.

Evie Ziffer and Julia Waugh got South Carolina on the board during the first wave with a 21-16, 21-4 win, followed by Morgan Downs and Amelia Taft who made their debut in the fourth spot. The pair battled to a 21-15, 21-19 victory on Court 4. Brooke Balue and Rachel Hartmann extended the lead with a commanding 21-11, 21-4 result from the top position, sealing the dual for the Gamecocks.

South Carolina continued to roll after clinching the match. VB Trost and Lauren Lawson cruised to a 21-7, 21-8 win at Flight 5, while Jolie Cranford and Peyton Yamagata capped the sweep with a 21-11, 21-10 victory on Court 3.

Against UAB, Cranford and Yamagata put the Gamecocks on the board first with a commanding straight-set victory from the second position, 21-11, 21-12. At the top spot, Balue and Hartmann earned South Carolina’s second point after grinding out a three-set win over their opponent, 21-18, 19-21, 15-9.

Sadie Nelson and Evie Ziffer battled at the third spot but fell 21-18, 21-17. Annalyse Askew and Juju Quintero pushed their match to three sets on Court 4 before dropping a 17-21, 23-21, 15-7 decision. Morgan Downs and Amelia Taft also forced three sets but came up short.
