South Carolina Athletics

Redshirt senior All-American picked up his sixth career victory (third this season) on Tuesday to surpass three-time All-American Kyle Thompson (1997-2001) for the most individual wins in program history

AWENDAW, S.C. – Redshirt senior All-American Frankie Harris cemented his name in the South Carolina men’s golf record books on Tuesday, winning the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate. It was his third win of the season and the sixth of his career which gives him the most career individual victories in Gamecock golf history, surpassing three-time All-American Kyle Thompson (five wins from 1997-2001).

The Boca Raton, Fla. native fired rounds of 67-63-74 at Bulls Bay Golf Club for a 54-hole total of 204 (-12) to win by a shot. His bogey free 63 (-9) in round two tied the program record for low 18-hole score. Harris made 17 birdies on the week to tie for the field lead. With the win, Harris now has 12 career top-five finishes, T-4th most all-time at Carolina with two-time All-American Will Starke (2012-16).

The Gamecocks took second as a team with a 54-hole total of 835 (-29). Carolina trailed its co-host for the tournament, College of Charleston, by 14 shots entering today and made a valiant comeback effort in cool, breezy conditions at Bulls Bay. The Cougars held on down the stretch with five birdies over the final five holes to win by six at 35-under. College of Charleston made seven eagles as a team in the tournament to lead the field which ultimately pushed them in front of the Gamecocks, who only had two over the course of 54-holes.

The field scoring average today was 74.80, up nearly four whole strokes from the 71.08 average in round one on Sunday.

South Carolina secured a point in the annual South Carolina Education Lottery Palmetto Series,  finishing 13 shots ahead of in-state rival Clemson. The Gamecocks held a 2-1 advantage in head-to-head meetings with the Tigers this season.

Freshman Talan Harrison put together another solid tournament as he shot 31-spots up the leaderboard in the final round today at Bulls Bay with a field-best 68 (-4) to finish T-11th with a 5-under total of 211. It’s his fourth top-20 finish of the season in eight starts.

Senior Zach Adams and sophomore Marek Fleming finished in the top-10, each shooting 210 (-6) to finish T-7th. Adams, a Charleston native, was steady from start to finish shooting 67-71-72 and leading the 84-man field with 44 pars and just three bogeys all tournament. Fleming shot 69-69-72. It’s the second top-10 finish of the season for both Adams and Fleming.
