No. 27 Gamecocks Hit the Road for Two SEC Matchups

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The No. 27 South Carolina women’s tennis team hits the road for two conference matches on Friday and Sunday. The Gamecocks will face the No. 8 Oklahoma Sooners on Friday at 6 p.m. ET and the No. 57 Arkansas Razorbacks on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.

ITA RANKINGS

  • In the latest edition of the ITA Team rankings, South Carolina fell three places to No. 27 after dropping two road matches against top 20 opponents. This is the seventh consecutive week the Gamecocks have been featured among the best in the country.
  • In the ITA Singles rankings, sophomore Helena Buchwald climbed 25 spots through the rankings and comes in at No. 52 this week. Kaitlyn Carnicella follows closely at No. 56.
  • Lauren Friedman and Buchwald made their way into the top 10 and sit at No. 9.

LAST TIME OUT

The Gamecocks hosted then-No. 4 Auburn and then-No. 17 Florida. South Carolina dropped both matches, falling 4-1 to both schools.

Against the Tigers, the Gamecocks found their lone point behind a strong performance from Helena Buchwald, who earned a straight-set win over a ranked opponent at the No. 2 spot.

Versus the Gators, Jana Stojanova executed a strong performance from court six as she defeated her opponent 6-4, 6-3 to put the Gamecocks on the board.

SCOUTING THE SOONERS

  • Oklahoma comes into the matchup ranked in the top ten in the nation and looks to continue its seven-match win streak. They are 17-4 overall and 7-2 in SEC play.
  • Julia Ruiz (No.40) and Evialina Laskevich (No. 41) lead the way in the singles rankings. Edda Mamedova follows behind in 72nd.
  • In doubles, the pair of Roisin Gilheany and Gloriana Nahum claim the top spot in the country, posting an 11-2 record.
  • Laskevich and Mamedova sit 30th and Ruiz and Oyinlomo Quadre are 51st.

SERIES HISTORY

  • The Gamecocks hold a 3-2 advantage over the Sooners, but have dropped the last two matches in 2025 and 2022.
  • Both teams have only met five times, once being in Norman. The 2026 SEC Championship will be held in Norman, Okla., at the end of April.

SCOUTING THE RAZORBACKS

  • Arkansas is 10-9 overall and 1-8 in conference play after losing five straight.
  • Carolina Alonso is the lone Razorback to be ranked in singles, as she ranks 35th.
  • Arkansas is represented in the doubles rankings by Anet Koskel and Alonso, who are sitting 39th in the nation.

SERIES HISTORY

  • The Gamecocks are 29-9 over the Razorbacks and have traded wins back-and-forth since 2021.
  • South Carolina picked up the win last season at home against Arkansas, earning a 4-0 victory.
