Baseball Falls to Georgia, 5-2, Friday Night in Athens
ATHENS – No. 7 Georgia scored five runs in the bottom of the second inning in a 5-2 win over the University of South Carolina baseball team Friday night (March 27) at Foley Field.
Carolina scored the game’s first run in the top of the second. Luke Yuhasz singled to left with one out. He went to second on Patrick Evans’ single and scored on Ethan Lizama’s single to left. Georgia scored five runs in the bottom of the second, capped by a Daniel Jackson grand slam.
The Gamecocks plated a run in the seventh. A Talmadge LeCroy single was followed by a walk to KJ Scobey. Jake Randolph then laced a single to left to plate LeCroy.
Evans had three hits to lead Carolina’s offense while Yuhasz was 2-for-4 with a double. The loss went to Josh Gunther, who allowed five runs on three hits with four walks and four strikeouts.
Parker Marlatt, Zach Russell and Alex Philpott pitched four innings of scoreless relief, combining to allow just one hit with a pair of strikeouts.
POSTGAME NOTES
- The Gamecocks outhit the Bulldogs, 9-4, in Friday’s game.
- Carolina’s offense worked six walks in the game.
- All nine hitters reached base at least one time in Friday’s contest.
