Gamecocks Battle Elements in Day Two of Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, N.C. (March 27, 2026) – South Carolina Track & Field powered through the elements in the second day of the Raleigh Relays, beginning competition at 10 a.m. on Friday and ending things as the clock nearly struck midnight. The Gamecocks experienced smooth sailing until the women’s 5000 meter was put on an hour-and-a-half hiatus due to severe weather in the area.

However, the delay did not slow down the Gamecock women’s distance runners. Anya Arroyo did not begin competition until 11 p.m. but made it worth it as she ran a new personal best and a new school record in the women’s 10K. The veteran runner crossed the line in 33:43.49 for the runner-up finish to cap off the rain-soaked night in style.

Teammates Teresa Cherotich and Emma Torbert also climbed up the all-time program leaderboard in the 10K as Cherotich moved into third all time with a mark of 33:48.33 and Torbert slid into fourth in program history after clocking 34:20.11.

Abigail White set a new personal best in the 5K, running 16:26.50 for the seventh fastest time in program history. White currently sits 38th overall in the loaded field with one more section set to run tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.

Prior to the delay, South Carolina had competed in eight events on the day. On the men’s side, Robert Stitts Jr. led the way with a bronze finish in the 100m, running a season best time of 10.29 (1.4). David Warmington Jr. also posted a Top 10 finish in the 110-meter hurdles after clocking 14.27 (-2.2).

As for the women, the trio of Zaya Akins, JaMeesia Ford and Akala Garrett posted strong 400m openers to kick off their respective seasons. Akins placed third overall with a mark of 51.43, while Ford finished fourth (52.08) and Garrett recorded a fifth place finish with a time of 52.16.

Tristen Harris was the top Gamecock runner in the 100m for the second consecutive week, finishing seventh overall with a time of 11.58 (-0.1). She was joined in the top 10 by Kymora-Lee Williams who clocked 11.63 (-0.2) to finish 10th overall. Joslyn Hamilton and Kyndall Harrington-Spain each recorded top 10 results in the 100-meter hurdles, with Hamilton finishing eighth (13.88) and Harrington-Spain clocking 10th (13.93).

Ella Lucas competed in the only field event for the women today, finishing eighth overall in the discus after throwing a distance of 48.96m (160-7).

South Carolina will wrap up the weekend tomorrow with the third and final day of the Raleigh Relays. The Gamecocks will get under way at 10 a.m. with the women’s pole vault and women’s long jump, while concluding the meet with the women’s 4x400m relay at 4:55 p.m.
