McLean Leads Trio of Gamecocks at Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic

Freshman from Australia finished solo third at 6-under for her first career top-five finish at South Carolina

ATHENS, Ga. – Freshman Molly McLean led a trio of Gamecocks playing as individuals this week at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic (March 28-30). She had a career-best, third-place finish at 6-under.

McLean fired rounds of 69-72-69 for a 54-hole total of 210, a new career-low mark. It’s her first career top-five finish and her second top-20 of the season in six events played. McLean led the 89-player field with 18 birdies. She finished T-1^st in par-5 scoring average (4.33, -8) and T-4^th in par-4 scoring average (4.00, E).

Senior Mia Sandtorv Lussand also finished in the top-20 as she T-14^th at 5-over. She shot 76-72-73 for a 54-hole total of 221. It’s the second top-20 of the season for Sandtorv Lussand and the 10^th of her career at South Carolina.

The No. 21 Gamecocks are off from competition before the team’s title defense begins at the SEC Championship (April 17-21) in a few short weeks. Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Fla. will play host to the conference tournament again for the third consecutive year.

Sophomore Eila Galitsky is set to make her fourth appearance at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur this week. First round action gets underway at Champions Retreat on Wednesday with TV coverage from 1:30-3:30 on the Golf Channel for both the first and second rounds. The top-30 (and ties) advance to the final round at Augusta National Golf Club on Saturday.
