Gamecocks Defeat Vanderbilt 4-1 on Senior Day

COLUMBIA, S.C. – No. 13 South Carolina men’s tennis team (14-6, 7-5 SEC) closed out regular season home matches on a high note on Saturday evening, defeating No. 19 Vanderbilt 4-1.

The Gamecocks had to fight back from a deficit when the Commodores took the first doubles match on court two, defeating Sean Daryabeigi and Max Stenzer 6-3. Gabe Avram and Charlie Swaine leveled the field with a 6-4 victory over Jack Satterfield and Donghyun Hwang, moving to 5-1 as a pair on the dual match season. No. 15 Lucas da Silva and Paul Barbier Gazeu took down No. 20 Hoyoung Roh and Nathan Cox to get back in the win column and clinch the doubles point with their fifth ranked win of the season.

South Carolina carried that momentum into singles play, when Gazeu (6-4), Daryabeigi (6-4) and Avram (6-3) won their first sets. No. 56 Daryabeigi got on the board first, winning his second set 6-3 to defeat Danil Panarin in straight sets and advance the score to 2-0. The Gamecocks got within one point of clinching the match when No. 105 Gazeu won his second set 6-3 to earn a ranked win over No. 88 Roh on court two. The Commodores got one back on court four to bring the score to 3-1. Avram got his second win of the day on court six, defeating Hugo Conquelin in straight sets and claiming the South Carolina victory.

The Gamecocks wrap up the regular season on the road next week, facing Georgia on Friday, April 10 at 5:30 p.m. before taking on Tennessee on Sunday, April 12 at noon.
