No. 18 Gamecocks Grab Two Wins on Final Day of Wildcat Challenge

TUCSON, Ariz. – The No. 18 South Carolina beach volleyball team picked up two wins on the final day of the Wildcat Challenge in Tucson, Ariz. The Gamecocks earned a 3-2 upset win against No. 14 Hawaii and closed out the weekend defeating Florida Gulf Coast, 4-1.

The Gamecocks got on the board first, thanks to a win from the top duo of Jolie Cranford and Peyton Yamagata, who defeated the Hawaii pair 21-19, 26-24. The Rainbow Warriors bounced back on court five, defeating Morgan Downs and Amelia Taft. However, the Gamecocks were able to take control with back-to-back wins from courts two and three to clinch the match.

Against Florida Gulf Coast, Evie Ziffer and Lauren Lawson kicked things off with a straight-set 21-19, 21-17 win from court two. The Gamecocks secured three straight points from courts one, five, and four to take a 4-0 lead. Brooke Balue and Rachel Hartmann were battling it out in a third set after falling in the first. The pair’s late surge was not enough to overcome the pair from FGCU, who grabbed their lone point of the match.

South Carolina is back in action on Saturday, April 11, as they host Stetson for a Senior Day doubleheader. First serve is set for 9 a.m. at Wheeler Beach.
