No. 25 Gamecocks Fall to No. 7 Vols in Series Finale
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 25 South Carolina softball team (23-17, 3-9) dropped its series finale at No. 7 Tennessee (32-6, 9-6) Saturday night (Apr. 4) 4-2.
Jamie Mackay led Carolina at the plate with a 2-for-3 night and an RBI.
The Volunteers jumped out early with three runs in the bottom of the second before a solo home run in the third. That would be all the runs they would get as Josey Marron and Jori Heard combined to pitch four shutout innings the rest of the way.
South Carolina got both of their runs in the fourth. Karley Shelton reached on an error and scored when Arianna Rodi doubled down the left field line. Mackay followed suit and shot one down the right field line to score pinch runner Ansley Bennett.
The Gamecocks got a leadoff single from Mackay in the seventh, but the next three batters were retired to end the rally.
Nealy Lamb (4-7) started and took the loss, allowing one run on one hit in an inning of work.
The Gamecocks return home to host No. 5 Florida beginning April 10 at 6 p.m.
