Gamecocks Sweep Tennessee in Regular Season Finale

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 12 South Carolina men’s tennis team (15-7, 8-6 SEC) defeated No. 53 Tennessee in a dominant 4-0 showing to wrap up regular season play on Sunday afternoon.

South Carolina jumped out to an early edge in doubles play, taking control on two courts as the point unfolded. On Court 3, Gabe Avram and Charlie Swaine built a steady 4-2 advantage, while No. 50 Sean Daryabeigi and Max Stenzer held a narrow 4-3 lead on Court 2. 

Avram and Swaine were first to finish, sealing a 6-3 victory behind an unreturnable serve from Swaine to give South Carolina its first win of the afternoon. Moments later, Daryabeigi and Stenzer followed suit, closing out a 6-4 decision to clinch the doubles point for the Gamecocks. 

The momentum continued into singles play with all six Gamecocks winning their first sets. Daryabeigi (6-0), Avram (6-3) and Barbier Gazeu (6-3) won comfortably while da Silva (7-5), Stenzer (7-6) and Karahan (7-6) fought through tie breaks and close sets. Tennessee began to fight back in second set action, keeping within one point or leading throughout all six courts. The Volunteers hinted at a comeback with Karahan, Barbier Gazeu and Avram each falling in their second sets.

The first Gamecocks singles win of the day came from Daryabeigi, who won in straight sets after a successful tiebreak victory for his second. Stenzer followed suit with another straight set victory to push the score to 3-0. The clincher came from the bottom of the lineup, where Avram came through in a three set showing to secure the team’s first sweep of regular season.

Up next the Gamecocks head to College Station, Texas for the 2026 SEC Championships, hosted by Texas A&M from April 15-19. The bracket will be released at a later date.
