Baseball's Phillips Named SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week
BIRMINGHAM – University of South Carolina baseball junior righthanded pitcher Amp Phillips has been named the Southeastern Conference’s Co-Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced this afternoon (Monday, April 13).
Phillips had his best start as a Gamecock in Friday night’s 1-0 win over Missouri. Phillips went eight-plus innings, allowing just five hits (three that were infield singles) with no runs, one walk and a season-high 10 strikeouts. Phillips retired the first 10 batters of the game, seven with the use of the strikeout. He retired the side in order in the first, second, third, sixth, seventh and eighth frames and had 74 strikes in his 103 pitches. Phillips lowered his ERA to 2.17 on the season and 1.42 in conference play in helping Carolina to its first 1-0 win since March of 2025.
Phillips joins Josh Gunther (March 2) as Gamecocks to earn SEC Pitcher of the Week honors this season. Will Craddock was named SEC Freshman of the Week on Feb. 23.
Phillips shares the honor with Auburn’s Alex Petrovic. Arkansas’ TJ Pompey was named the SEC Player of the Week and Tennessee’s Cam Appenzeller was named SEC Freshman of the Year.
Carolina starts a nine-game homestand this Tuesday (April 14) as the Gamecocks host Davidson. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. and the game will be streamed on SEC Network Plus.
