Gamecocks Set for SEC Championship
COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS – The No. 13 South Carolina men’s tennis team (15-7, 8-6 SEC) is on to postseason play this week, heading to the 2026 SEC Championships hosted by Texas A&M at the Mitchell Tennis Center. The seventh seeded Gamecocks are slated to play on Thursday, April 16 at 3:00 p.m. (ET) after earning a bye, facing the winner of the No. 56 Tennessee and No. 25 Ole Miss match.
GAMECOCK NOTABLES
- Records: 15-7 (overall), 8-6 (SEC), 8-6 (home), 7-1 (away)
- South Carolina finished the regular season on the road last week, falling to then-No. 13 Georgia 4-1 before bouncing back in a 4-0 win over then-No 53 Tennessee.
- The teams past 15 matches have been against ranked opponents, with the Gamecocks winning nine.
- South Carolina’s largest win streak of the season was six matches, two of which were shutouts.
- Paul Barbier Gazeu has the most singles wins on the team this season, boasting a 23-9 overall record. The redshirt freshman is 13-5 in dual matches from the No. 2 (5-2) and No. 3 (8-3) positions. The Gamecocks’ No. 1 player Lucas da Silva is 18-8 overall, going 11-4 in dual matches from the top of the lineup. Against ranked opponents da Silva is 9-2, capturing two wins over No. 3 ranked players. Sean Daryabeigi holds a 17-11 singles record that includes a 10-6 standing in dual matches from primarily the second position.
- In doubles, Daryabeigi and Max Stenzer are 18-9 overall while Barbier Gazu and da Silva are 14-5. From the top of the lineup, Barbier Gazeu and da Silva are 9-3, picking up six ranked wins. Daryabeigi and Stenzer are 3-1 from the No. 1 position and 6-5 from the No. 2.
IN THE RANKINGS
- In the ITA team rankings released earlier this week, the Gamecocks finished the regular season ranked No. 13. This marks their second highest ranking of the season and eighth consecutive week in the top 25.
- Da Silva leads the team in singles rankings, sitting at No. 13 heading into championship week. Daryabeigi follows at No. 72. The two Gamecocks have been ranked in all ten ITA singles releases, with da Silva remaining in the top 20 for the past five straight.
- In doubles, da Silva and Gazeu have moved back inside the top 10 at No. 7, the pair’s highest ranking of the season. Daryabeigi and da Silva are tabbed at No. 66. Daryabeigi and Stenzer round out the Garnet & Black representation at 59.
SCOUTING THE VOLUNTEERS
No. 56 Tennessee is 10-17 for the season, going 1-13 in conference play. The Volunteers are on a five-match losing streak following losses to then-No. 12 South Carolina and then-No. 24 Ole Miss. The Gamecocks victory over Tennessee extended the win-streak to three straight. The Vols lead the all-time series record between the two programs 40-25, with the Gamecocks winning five of the last seven meetings.
SCOUTING THE REBELS
No. 25 Ole Miss is 18-8 this season and 5-8 in conference play, most recently coming off with a 4-3 win against No. 22 Kentucky. The Rebels take two places in the singles rankings with No. 81 Stefano D’Agostino and No. 119 Matthieu Chambonniere. In doubles, the No. 26 duo Isac Stromberg and Kai Milburn are 19-12 in matches this season. In their first meeting this season, South Carolina fell 5-2 to the Rebels. In the series history, Ole Miss leads 27-16.
