Track & Field Shines in Sunshine State
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (April 18, 2026) – South Carolina Track & Field concluded the Tom Jones Memorial on Saturday in Gainesville, Fla. by recording three wins and seven new Top 10 program marks.
Among those new program marks comes a new program record as the women’s 4×400 meter relay of Akala Garrett, JaMeesia Ford, Cynteria James and Zaya Akins closed out the meet with a time of 3:23.42. The quartet delivered one of the Gamecocks’ three wins on the day and posted the second fastest relay time in the NCAA this season.
The 4×100 meter relay team of Alexis Brown, James, Joslyn Hamilton and Ford secured a win for the Garnet & Black with the second fastest time in school history. The quartet of sprinters crossed the finish line in 42.62 to tie the fastest time in the NCAA this season.
Brown, Hamilton and James also enjoyed individual success on the track in their respective events. Brown and James tied for third in the 100m sprint after running 11.04 for season best times. Brown’s time of 11.04 is her best in a Gamecock uniform and moved her into fourth all time in program history. Hamilton climbed the all-time program leaderboard in the 100-meter hurdles, running a wind-aided personal best of 12.94 (3.0) in the preliminary round before running a wind-legal personal best time of 12.93 (1.0) in the finale. Hamilton was able to secure the runner-up finish with the third fastest mark in Gamecock history.
On the men’s side it was the 400m runners that shined. Josiah Wrice took home the overall win in the invite section of the 400m sprint, clocking a new personal best time of 44.72 to improve on his third place ranking on the all-time program leaderboard. He was followed by teammate Devan Crumpton who was able to secure his first sub-45 second 400m sprint, running 44.93. Crumpton’s time was good enough for the runner-up finish and the fourth fastest time in Gamecock history.
Jasauna Dennis made his 400m season debut on Saturday, running in the open section and was able to finish fourth overall with a time of 46.20.
South Carolina will compete in the Tiger Track Classic next week in Auburn, Ala. The two-day meet will be at the site of this year’s SEC Outdoor Championship to be contested May 14-16.
