No. 23 Gamecocks Late Match Play Rally at SEC Championship Falls Shy

South Carolina went 9-under its final six holes on the back nine but missed the top-eight cut by three shots today at Pelican Golf Club

BELLEAIR, Fla. – No. 23 South Carolina made a valiant charge on the back nine today going 9-under in the team’s final six holes but ultimately fell three shots shy of the top-eight, 54-hole match play cut at the SEC Championship. The Gamecocks finished T-10^th at 6-over (846) over the last three days at Pelican Golf Club.

Junior Vairana Heck had a standout week leading Carolina with a T-8^th finish at 3-under (207). She shot scores of 72-68-67 in her second career SEC Championship start. It’s her third top-10 of the season and the fifth of her career as a Gamecock.

Freshman Molly McLean also had a solid week in her SEC Championship debut. She finished T-19^th at 1-over with a 54-hole total of 211. The Melbourne, Austrailia native shot 72-66-73. Her 66 (-4) in round two was a new career-low score. McLean birdied the difficult par-4 18^th hole all three rounds.

Senior Mia Sandtorv Lussand and sophomore All-American Eila Galitsky each finished T-44^th at 7-over (217). Sandtorv Lussand shot 71-71-75. Galitsky shot 74-76-67, making five birdies on the back nine today. Junior Maylis Lamoure finished T-61^st at 11-over (221) with rounds of 69-75-77.

Carolina led the 16-team field this week in par-5 scoring average (4.60, -12).
