Baseball Falls to Kentucky to Close Out Series
COLUMBIA – Kentucky scored five runs in the eighth and ninth innings in a 9-5 win over the University of South Carolina baseball team Sunday afternoon (April 26) at Founders Park. The Gamecocks did win the series after victories on Friday and Saturday.
The Wildcats jumped out in front in the first with a solo home run. Kentucky added three in the top of the third on two RBI singles.
Ethan Lizama sent one out of the park for his second long ball of the series, scoring Talmadge LeCroy to cut the lead in half in the fourth.
The Gamecocks loaded the bases with two outs in the fifth for LeCroy. Caleb Hoover and Aaron Jamison scored on a single from LeCroy, bringing the score even at four. Dawson Harman then walked with the bases loaded to give Carolina a 5-4 lead.
Kentucky regained the lead after an RBI single from Braxton VanCleve and a two-run home run by Caeden Cloud in the eighth. They tacked on two more on three hits in the ninth for a 9-5 final decision.
LeCroy led the offense with three hits and two RBI. Alex Philpott took the loss on the night, giving up two hits and three runs in 2.1 innings of work.
POSTGAME NOTES
- LeCroy’s multi-hit game today ties him for the team lead with KJ Scobey at 14.
- Carolina has won the last four series against Kentucky in Columbia.
- LeCroy had seven hits in the series, driving in three runs, while Ethan Lizama had six RBI.
