South Carolina Athletics

South Carolina the first school to have four individuals compete at NCAA Regionals in Division I women's golf history ; Furman had three selections in 2021 and San Diego State had three in 2013

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Four Gamecocks were selected to compete as individuals in the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship it was announced Wednesday afternoon. Junior Vairana Heck (Ranked No. 38), junior Maylis Lamoure (No. 161), sophomore Eila Galitsky (No. 40) and freshman Molly McLean (No. 147) all received at-large bids to compete at NCAA Regionals (May 11-13). All four are ranked inside the top-170 of the latest Clippd Player Rankings.

Heck and McLean will compete at the NCAA Tallahassee Regional hosted at Seminole Legacy Golf Club in Tallahassee, Fla. Galitsky and Lamoure will compete at the NCAA Louisville Regional hosted at the University of Louisville Golf Club in Simpsonville, Ky. The top individual on a non-advancing team will earn a spot at the NCAA Championship at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa (May 22-27). Six total individuals and 30 teams (top-five) will advance from the six regional sites.

The Gamecocks, ranked No. 24 in the latest Clippd Poll, were not selected as a team with an at-large bid due to the .500 rule which was instituted in the NCAA Division I women’s golf postseason selection process two years ago. To be eligible for postseason at-large selection, teams must have an overall win-loss record above .500 through their conference championship. Carolina had a 55-58-3 record competing against one of the toughest schedules in the country this season. The team was 51-49-1 entering the SEC Championship back on April 17. The Gamecocks T-10th in stroke play with No. 6 Arkansas and No. 16 Mississippi State, missing the top-eight cut for match play by just three shots. It snaps a streak of 26-straight NCAA Regional appearances dating back to 1999 for the program.

It’s the first time in NCAA Regional history a program has had four individuals selected to compete in the postseason at the NCAA Division I level. Furman had three players selected in 2021 and San Diego State had three individual NCAA Regional selections in 2013.
