Baseball Opens May with a Trip to LSU

Carolina heads to Baton Rouge, La., for a three-game SEC series May 1-3 at LSU.
Friday’s game will start at 7:30 p.m. ET with Saturday’s game at 7 p.m. ET. Sunday’s game starts at 3 p.m. ET.
All three games will be streamed on SEC Network Plus.
All three games also will be broadcast on the Gamecock Sports Network presented by Learfield with Derek Scott and Cade Crenshaw on the call.

SCOUTING LSU

The Tigers are coming off a 12-4 win over SE Louisiana on Tuesday night.
Derek Curiel went 3-for-4 with three runs scored in the win.
Curiel leads the LSU offense with a .346 batting average while Cade Arrambide has 13 home runs and 35 RBI.
On the mound, William Schmidt has four wins and 72 strikeouts in 54 innings pitched.
Jay Johnson is in his fifth season at LSU. He has guided the Tigers to a national championship in 2023 and 2025.

SERIES VS. LSU

LSU has a 46-33-1 series advantage heading into Friday’s game.
Carolina won the series opener against the Tigers last season, 6-5, as KJ Scobey homered and drove in a pair and Brandon Stone struck out four in 4.1 innings of relief.
Carolina has not played in Baton Rouge since 2021, where the Gamecocks won 2-of-3 games, taking both ends of a Saturday doubleheader.
Brady Allen’s RBI double gave the Gamecocks the lead in the 4-2 win and Carolina completed the sweep with a 9-0 win in the nightcap.
Carolina is 14-15-1 all-time vs. LSU in Baton Rouge.

CAROLINA CONNECTIONS IN BATON ROUGE

Josh Gregoire is a native of Baton Rouge and played high school baseball at Episcopal HS, where he struck out 127 batters in 78 innings.
Gregoire started his collegiate career at LSU-Eunice before transferring to ULM.
Assistant coach Terry Rooney coached at LSU in separate stints from 2007-08 and 2024.
Graduate Assistant Caleb Westfall is a 2023 graduate of LSU and was a student manager for the Tiger baseball team.

BULLPEN SHOWS UP BIG IN SERIES WIN

Carolina’s bullpen had a big hand in the series win over Kentucky.
Cooper Parks pitched 3.2 innings of relief on Friday, striking out three and allowing just one hit.
Parker Marlatt earned his first save of the season on Friday, pitching a scoreless ninth.
Zach Russell pitched both Friday and Saturday. Combined, he threw 2.1 innings with two hits and no runs allowed.
Logan Prisco struck out a pair in 1.2 scoreless innings on Saturday.
