Gamecocks Drop Pitcher’s Duel to No. 4 Alabama, 1-0
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – South Carolina (30-24, 7-16) softball starting pitcher Emma Friedel allowed only one run Friday afternoon (May 1) against No. 4 Alabama (46-5, 18-4), but Gamecocks were unable to push across a run, falling 1-0 in game two of the series.
Friedel (10-6) struck out seven and scattered five hits in the complete game. It was her second complete game of the season.
Tori Ensley extended her hitting streak to eight games with a single in the first.
The Gamecocks had a base runner reach in five of the seven innings. Their best chance for a run came in the sixth when Quincee Lilio and Arianna Rodi drew a walk.
The lone run of the game came in the bottom of the fifth with two outs on a single and a double by the Crimson Tide.
Friedel stranded eight Alabama runners on the night, including getting out of a bases loaded jam in second with a strikeout looking.
The regular season finale between South Carolina and Alabama is tomorrow at 2 p.m. ET.
