Track & Field Concludes Opening Day of East Coast Relays
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (May 1, 2026) – Gamecock Track & Field competed in the opening day of the East Coast Relays down in Jacksonville, Fla. as the Garnet & Black took part in seven combined events.
Akala Garrett and Jathiyah Muhammad notched wins in their respective events for the Gamecock women. Garrett, a transfer hurdler from Texas, captured the crown in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.36. Meanwhile Muhammad, a transfer vaulter from Arizona, took home the win in the women’s pole vault after clearing 4.10m (13-5.25).
Kymora-Lee Williams was the top Gamecock sprinter in the women’s 200m, securing a new personal best time after running 23.18 (1.2) to finish eighth overall. Robert Stitts Jr. also walked away with a new personal best in the men’s 200m, crossing the finish line in 20.65 (1.6) to place sixth overall.
Khaliq Muhammad was the highest individual finish for the Gamecock men, earning the bronze placement in the men’s pole vault after clearing 5.15m (16-10.75).
South Carolina will close out the East Coast Relays tomorrow at Hodges Stadium with a slew of events, beginning with the men’s 110mH preliminary round at 11:30 a.m. and concluding with the men’s 4x400m relay at 4:05 p.m.
