Gamecocks Climb Regional Rankings after Dominant Showing at East Coast Relays

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (May 2, 2026) – South Carolina Track & Field put on a dominant showing in the final day of the East Coast Relays as the sprints group and the field event squad climbed up the East Regional leaderboard in the final regular season meet. The Gamecocks combined for six overall wins and five Top 10 program marks in the final day at Hodges Stadium.

The women’s team accounted for four of the six wins as well as three of the five Top 10 program advancements. Individually, the Gamecocks shined in the women’s 100-meter hurdles, led by Joslyn Hamilton with a win and a new personal best time of 12.91 (1.4). Hamilton’s new PR in the 100mH moved her into second all time in program history as well as fourth in the East Region. Akala Garrett turned in a season best time for the third-place finish, running 13.06 (1.4) for the eighth fastest mark in school history, sliding into the Top 20 in the East. Kyndall Harrington-Spain also ran a new personal best time in the finals of the 100mH, clocking 13.20 (1.4) to position herself 22nd in the East Region after the fifth-place finish.

JaMeesia Ford claimed the title in the women’s 100m, posting a season-best mark of 11.09 (1.5) to put herself in seventh in the East Regional. Five of the Top 10 finishers in the women’s 100m were comprised of Gamecocks, including Kymora-Lee Williams who ran a new personal best 11.34 (1.6) to slide into the regional Top 30.

The women’s relay squads swept the competition, winning both the 4×100 meter relay and the 4×400 meter relay. Alexis Brown, Cynteria James, Zaya Akins and Ford secured the 4x100m relay after crossing the finish line in 42.82 for the third fastest time in school history. Garrett, James, Ford and Harrington-Spain put the finishing touches on the women’s competition with the triumph in the 4x400m relay, turning in a time of 3:36.57.

As for the men, there were a pair of wins and a pair of Top 10 program advancements. Josiah Wrice was responsible for the win in the men’s 400m, his third of the season. The sophomore sprinter clocked 44.92 to edge out teammates Devan Crumpton (45.19) and Jasauna Dennis (45.70) who ran a new collegiate personal best and the eighth fastest time in school history. Andrew Salvodon rounded out the 400-meter dash with a personal best 46.85 to place fifth overall, capping off the field with four Gamecocks in the top five.

The final win came in the men’s 4x400m relay with the same quartet of Wrice, Dennis, Salvodon and Crumpton claiming the gold after running a combined time of 3:04.88.

Ellis Neighbors and David Warmington Jr. individually finished runner-up in their respective events, turning in season best marks. Warmington Jr. ran 13.75 (1.1) in the 110-meter hurdle for his best result of the season, sliding into 20th in the East Regional rankings. Meanwhile, Neighbors secured a new personal best distance in the javelin when he threw 68.42m (224-5) to improve on his fourth-place ranking in school history. Additionally, Neighbors’ new personal best places him inside the Top 20 in the regional rankings.

The final personal best on the men’s side came from Robert Stitts Jr. in the men’s 100m as he ran a wind-aided time of 10.19 (4.1) to finish sixth. His mark would have ranked eighth in school history, however wind registered higher than 4.0 nullifies marks from historical rankings.

South Carolina’s distance crew will close out the regular season tomorrow at the Duke Twilight in Durham, N.C. Competition for the Gamecocks will begin at 6 p.m. with the women’s 800m and will conclude at 9:40 p.m. with the second heat of the women’s 5K.
