Gamecocks Fall in Regular Season Finale 4-3 to No. 4 Alabama
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The South Carolina softball team (30-25, 7-17) dropped its regular season finale Saturday afternoon (May 2) at No. 4 Alabama (47-5, 19-4) 4-3.
Arianna Rodi led Carolina with two hits on the afternoon.
The Gamecocks took the early lead when Rodi led off the second inning with her 11th home run of the season to right center. The home run was the 28th of her career at Carolina and moves her into sixth place. Her 11 home runs on the season move her into a tie for eighth.
South Carolina added to it in the second with a two-out walk to Lilio. It was career walk No. 83, which moves her into 10th place all-time as a Gamecock. That was followed by what was originally ruled a double off the bat of Karley Shelton, scoring Lilio.
Alabama took the lead in the third with a pair of bases loaded walks and a single. They would add another run in the fourth after an error and a single.
Shelton pulled the deficit to one with a leadoff solo home run in the sixth to right, her seventh of the season.
Jori Heard (11-10) took the loss, tossing 3 1-3 innings and allowing three runs on three hits, striking out five and walking five.
The Gamecocks will take on Ole Miss in the opening round of the SEC Tournament May 5 with the time to be determined.
