Pair of Distance Records Fall at Duke Twilight
DURHAM, N.C. (May 3, 2026) – South Carolina Track & Field’s distance group capped off the regular season on Sunday night with a pair of program records at the Duke Twilight in Durham, N.C.
Salma Elbadra was responsible for one of the two records, breaking her own program record in the 800 meter race when she captured the win after running 2:00.55 to best her previous record by .07 seconds. In addition, Elbadra now ranks seventh overall in the NCAA standings heading into the postseason.
The other record broken came at the feet of Elijah Poore in the 3000m steeplechase, taking down his own program mark after running 8:52.71 to finish seventh overall in the field.
The Gamecock distance group also secured three more top 10 program marks, including Kaleb Burroughs in the 1500m after crossing the finish line in 3:42.28 to place 15th. Burroughs’ new personal best has him sitting third overall on the program leaderboard.
Abigail White and Eline Mast improved on their placements on the program leaderboard in the women’s 1500m. White, currently ranked fourth, improved on that mark after running a new personal best 4:19.45. Meanwhile, Mast already sitting in fifth in program history, further distanced herself from sixth place as she ran a season best 4:23.18.
With regular season competition in the rear-view mirror, the Gamecocks will now focus on the grind of the postseason, beginning with the SEC Outdoor Championship. This year’s outdoor conference championship will take place May 14-16 in Auburn, Ala.
