Baseball Drops Friday Game vs. Alabama

COLUMBIA – The University of South Carolina baseball team dropped its series opener to No. 19 Alabama, 8-3, on Friday night (May 8) at Founders Park.

Alabama scored four runs in the top of the second, with a pair of home runs. Carolina got one back in the fourth on KJ Scobey’s RBI single that scored Talmadge LeCroy.

The Crimson Tide plated an unearned run in the seventh and three runs in the eighth. The Gamecocks got a pair of base hits from Will Craddock and Ethan Lizama in the bottom of the eighth and both scored on wild pitches.

The Gamecocks had four hits on the day. Amp Phillips was tagged with the loss, allowing four hits and four runs with three strikeouts and three walks in 5.1 innings.

POSTGAME NOTES

  • Lizama hit his 10th double of the season. Carolina now has three double-digit double providers (Scobey 15; Evans 14; Lizama 10).
  • Josh Gregoire pitched 1.2 scoreless innings with three strikeouts and a hit.
  • Gamecock pitching struck out eight in the game.

Carolina will have Senior Day Saturday afternoon (May 8) at Founders Park before a 1 p.m. first pitch against No. 19 Alabama. Senior Day activities will start at 12:30 p.m. The game will be televised on SEC Network.
