Baseball Falls to Alabama on Senior Day at Founders Park

COLUMBIA – The University of South Carolina baseball team plated four runs in the second, but three Alabama home runs lifted the Crimson Tide to a 9-6 win on Saturday afternoon (May 9) at Founders Park.

Carolina trailed 1-0 after the top of the first but Jake Randolph belted a three-run home run on Senior Day and KJ Scobey added an RBI triple for a 4-1 lead. Alabama came back with three runs in the fourth and fifth frames, then added a pair of runs in the fifth. The Crimson Tide had home runs from JoJo Williamson, John Lemm and Will Plattner in the middle innings.

Randolph and Luke Yuhasz reached base to open the ninth. Scobey brought Randolph home on a sacrifice fly but a flyout ended the game.

Yuhasz was 3-for-4 on the day, while Randolph was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBI. Scobey added a pair of runs-batted-in. Brandon Stone took the loss, allowing six runs on eight hits in four innings.

POSTGAME NOTES

  • Before today’s game, Carolina’s five seniors were honors – Randolph, Yuhasz, Ethan Lizama, Talmadge LeCroy and Logan Sutter.
  • Riley Goodman pitched a scoreless ninth for the Gamecocks with a pair of strikeouts.
  • Six of Carolina’s nine hits were for extra bases.
