Gamecocks Place Five on All-SEC Teams

COLUMBIA, S.C. (May 19, 2026) – South Carolina Track & Field placed five athletes on the All-SEC teams, announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon. The criteria for All-SEC Teams are as follows: First Team (gold medalist), Second Team (silver medalist) and Third Team (bronze medalist).

Salma Elbadra and Akala Garrett represented South Carolina on the All-SEC First Team, earning wins in the 1500 meters and the 400-meter hurdles. Elbadra repeated as the SEC Outdoor 1500m Champion when she clocked 4:09.80 to fend off Tia Wilson of Florida who ran 4:09.84. The Morocco native carries the second fastest 1500m time in the NCAA this season at 4:02.63. Garrett earned the first gold medal for the Gamecocks in the 400mH since Tyler Brockington won in 2017, running a new world leading time of 54.02. Garrett’s winning time in the 400mH is the second fastest time in school history and saw her become the eighth 400mH winner in program history.

Tristen Harris is the lone Gamecock on the All-SEC Second Team, finishing runner-up in the women’s long jump. Harris, competing in her first ever SEC Outdoor Championship, secured the silver-medal finish after jumping a personal best distance of 6.49m (21-3.5). The freshman jumper became the first Gamecock scorer in the women’s long jump since Rougui Sow placed fourth in 2018. Harris’ silver-medal finish tied Antoinette Wilks for the best outdoor finish in the women’s long jump in program history.

Alexis Brown and Jaouad Khchina landed on the All-SEC Third Team for their bronze medal performances in the women’s 100m and the men’s 1500m. Brown, a Lenoir-Rhyne transfer, clocked 11.09 (0.5) in the 100m to take home the bronze medal and six points for the Gamecocks. Khchina was the highest scorer for the men’s team, placing third overall in the men’s 1500m when he ran 3:44.34. Khchina’s bronze medal finish is the second best 1500m result in Gamecock men’s history as he became the first ever two-time SEC Outdoor 1500m scorer in school history.
