Baseball's Shook Called Up by the Colorado Rockies

DENVER – University of South Carolina alum TJ Shook has been called up by the Colorado Rockies, the organization announced on Monday night (June 1). Shook is the 61st Gamecock to earn the call to the Major Leagues.

Shook, who was selected by the Rockies in the Triple A portion of last year’s Rule 5 draft, made 22 appearances for the Albuquerque Isotopes in the Pacific Coast League this season. Shook is 2-0 with a 2.86 ERA with seven saves and 29 strikeouts in 28.1 innings pitched. Shook started his professional career with the Milwaukee Brewers in 2021 and has been with the Brewers, New York Mets and Rockies organizations.

A three-year letterwinner at Carolina, Shook made 41 appearances in the Garnet and Black and was 6-1 with a 3.04 ERA and three saves. The Columbia native struck out 92 batters in 74 innings pitched. He helped the 2018 team to a Super Regional appearance and was a three-time SEC Spring Honor Roll member and was selected to the SEC Community Service Team in 2019.

The last Gamecock to earn the call to the Major Leagues was Carlos Cortes for the Athletics in July of 2025.

Shook and the Rockies are in the middle of a three-game set at the Los Angeles Angels. They will then host the Milwaukee Brewers this weekend at Coors Field.
