All Building to This
South Carolina will be heavily represented on the women’s side with the Gamecocks competing in nine events. The nine events are the most event entries under the direction of third year Head Coach Tim Hall. The Garnet & Black will send 12 women to compete in the nine events, figuring the Gamecocks to be heavily in the mix for the team title. South Carolina finished seventh overall last season and will be in search of the first Top 5 finish since placing third in 2006.

The women are highlighted by a handful of individuals ranked near the top of their respective events. Akala Garrett enters as the favorite in the women’s 400-meter hurdles, holding the top spot in the NCAA with a mark of 54.02. JaMeesia Ford and Salma Elbadra sit second overall in the NCAA in their events with Ford running 22.07 in the 200m and Elbadra clocking 4:02.63 in the 1500m.

In addition to the trio of individuals, South Carolina women will also compete in the: 4x100m relay, pole vault (Jathiyah Muhammad), 100mH (Joslyn Hamilton), 100m (Ford, Cynteria James), long jump (Tristen Harris), 400mH (Garrett, Kyndall Harrington-Spain), 200m (Ford, Alexis Brown) and the 4x400m relay.

The men have two entries this season, both on the track. Devan Crumpton looks to be the first scorer for the Gamecocks in the men’s 400m since Otis Harris finished runner-up in 2003. Meanwhile, Jaouad Khchina looks to join Anass Essayi as the only two scorers in program history in the men’s 1500m.
