Five Gamecocks Ready for Grand Stage at U20 World Championships

EUGENE, Ore. (Aug. 4, 2026) – TrackTown USA is set to host another major event this week as the U20 World Athletics Championships will take place at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. beginning tomorrow, Aug. 5 and concluding on Sunday, Aug. 9.

The Gamecocks will send four student-athletes to compete for Team USA, including three incoming freshmen. Rising sophomore Kaleb Burroughs will run the 800 meter race, while Justin Arogundade and D’Anna Cotton will compete in the men’s and women’s triple jump. Cameron Tucker looks to lace up the spikes in the 400 meter sprint as well as potentially the 4×400 meter mixed relay or the men’s relay.

Lyttle, the current Belize women’s long jump national record holder (6.48m), won the gold medal at the CARIFTA Games in the long jump after reaching a distance of 6.16m.

Burroughs earned his passage to represent Team USA after finishing runner-up in the USATF U20 trials back in June. The South Carolina native clocked 1:48.68 in the 800m finals to punch his ticket after posting a time of 1:50.24 during the preliminary round.

Incoming freshmen jumpers, Arogundade and Cotton, secured their places in the triple jump competition. Arogundade, a product of Georgia, finished runner-up in the men’s triple jump at the USATF trials, jumping 15.96m (52-4.5). Cotton, the reigning Gatorade Player of the Year, won the women’s triple jump event after jumping 13.13m (43-1).

Tucker is the final Gamecock set to compete in the U20 World Championships this week and will do so showcasing his skills in the 400m. Tucker, also the reigning Gatorade Player of the Year, finished third overall in the men’s individual 400m finals after clocking 45.15 to earn the final spot for Team USA.
