South Carolina Nets Clean Sheet in Home Opener

COLUMBIA, SC – South Carolina women’s soccer posted a clean sheet in the 2026 home opener, defeating Oregon State 2-0 on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Gamecocks struck often and early, putting up three shots in the first five minutes of action with two on target
• After a yellow card was issued on the Beavers’ Morgan Long, South Carolina put up four more attempts with two resulting corners, but were met by saves from Oregon State keeper Ally Larkin
• The first half ended scoreless but not without effort, as the Gamecocks took a 13-0 shot advantage heading into the locker room
• South Carolina picked up the pace in the second half, with the first goal of the season coming from senior transfer Sydney Middaugh in the 54th minute off an impressive heel kick assist from Cuyler Zulauf
• The Beavers got their lone shot on goal of the night up in the 73rd minute, but were quickly met with an answer from the Gamecocks in the 76th as Sophie Johnson sunk one straight down the middle from the top of the 18′
• The Gamecocks finished with 22 shots and nine on target
• Senior keeper Christina Tsaousis tallied her first win and shutout of the season with one save
