Gamecocks Travel to Wake Forest Sunday

COLUMBIA, SC – South Carolina women’s soccer hits the road for the first time this season, making the trip to Winston-Salem to face #18/- Wake Forest on Sun., Aug. 16, at 5 p.m. at Spry Stadium.

LAST TIME OUT
The Gamecocks posted a win in their season opener for the fourth-straight season, topping Oregon State 2-0 at Stone Stadium on Wednesday night. It was the third-straight season-opening shutout for the program as well. South Carolina out-shot the Beavers 22-1, including a 13-0 edge in the first half. Both Gamecock goals came from seniors in the second half  with transfer Sydney Middaugh striking first in the 55th minute and Sophie Johnson netting her first career goal in the 77th. In the game, 23 Gamecocks saw the field, including 16 who played at least 30 minutes.

SCOUTING THE DEMON DEACONS
Sunday’s matchup will be the 10th in the all-time series between the Gamecocks and Demon Deacons with four of the previous nine played in Winston-Salem. The Gamecocks have won two of the last three meetings, but Wake holds a 5-3-1 edge in the series.

The Demon Deacons opened their season with a 2-0 win over #16/16 LSU on Wednesday night. Both goals came in the second half, during which Wake had a 9-6 edge in shots.
