Gamecocks Fall in First Road Test

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – South Carolina Women’s Soccer (1-1-0) fell to Wake Forest (2-0-0) Sunday night in the first road match of the season, 3-0. The Gamecocks saw 22 players hit the field, with senior Reagan Schubach playing the full 90.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Wake Forest got the shots started with a dagger in the eighth minute straight down the center, but was met by a knockout save from Gamecock keeper Christina Tsaousis
• In the 15th minute, the Demon Deacons opened up scoring, sneaking into the upper left corner of the net from the top of the 18′ to make things 1-0
• The Gamecocks had a few looks going into the locker room, but were unable to connect to find the equalizer
• South Carolina came into the second half with new energy, getting off two back-to-back chances from senior transfer Sydney Middaugh and junior Avery Galante, but a Wake Forest defender blocked both attempts
• The Demon Deacons added two more in the 70th and 80th minutes to make things 3-0
• South Carolina took one corner, and Tsaousis finished with a season-high four saves

The Gamecocks will return home to host Clemson on Thursday, Aug. at 7:00 p.m. in Stone Stadium.
