South Carolina Dominates Furman 4-0

COLUMBIA, SC – South Carolina women’s soccer (3-1-0) shut out Furman (1-2-0) 4-0 on Sunday evening with a dominant performance. Four different Gamecocks found the back of the net on four goals with three assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Gamecocks held firm possession for the first four minutes of play, getting an early shot off in the fourth minute. Furman responded with two shots of their own, both saved by fifth-year keeper Christina Tsaousis.
• Senior Sydney Middaugh struck first for the Gamecocks in the tenth minute, coaxing the goalie out and drilling into the left side of the net. This was Middaugh’s second of the season, assisted by fellow senior Reagan Schubach.
• South Carolina kept their momentum going as senior Maryn Wolf scored her first goal as a Gamecock to put the team up 2-0 on their fourth corner kick of the half. Reese Slater and Taylor Bloom teamed up for the assist.
• Senior Amanda Patrick got on the scoresheet next, increasing the lead to 3-0 in the 29th minute. She drilled it to the back of the net from inside the box off a corner kick set up from Tutas.
• The Gamecocks continued to dominate, scoring their fourth goal in the 37th minute unassisted from Schubach off a blocked corner.
• This goal marks the 27th time in South Carolina history that the Gamecocks have scored 4+ goals in a half. The last games dating back to three occurrences in the 2024 season.
• The second half was a back-and-forth defensive battle between both teams, leaving each scoreless. The Gamecocks put up 11 shots.
• Stone Stadium cemented another top-ten attendance record with 5,509 fans in the thrilling win for the Gamecocks.
• The Gamecocks lead the Paladins 23-2 in shots and 8-1 in shots on goal.
