Loïc Sany Kong Named SBC Offensive Player of the Week

NEW ORLEANS – South Carolina men’s soccer forward Loïc Sany Kong was named the Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week Tuesday (Aug. 25).

Sany Kong earns his first Player of the Week honor after leading the Gamecocks to a 4-1 road win at North Florida in the season opener August 20. Sany Kong tallied five points on the night with two goals and an assist. It was his first multi-point and multi-goal match of his career.

He had a hand in all three second half goals, including scoring the game-winning goal in the 54th minute to put Carolina up 2-1. In the 66th minute Sany Kong took a free kick just outside the 18-yard box. His serve found the head of Angel Lopez, who deflected it home. On the ensuing kickoff, Carolina stole the ball and Sany Kong found the bottom right corner 19 seconds later for his second goal of the night.

For the season, Sany Kong leads South Carolina with three goals and seven points.

Sany Kong and the Gamecocks return to the pitch when they host Clemson for the Palmetto Series August 28 at Stone Stadium for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
