Women's Soccer Picks Up Win Out West Over Colorado State

FORT COLLINS, CO – The Gamecocks (5-1-0) are set to head back home to Columbia with two wins under their belt after taking down Colorado State (1-3-0) on Sunday, 1-0. It marked the fourth shutout of the season for South Carolina, and the second consecutive win against a team the Gamecocks have played for the very first time (prev. 2-1 win against Wyoming, 8/27).

HOW IT HAPPENED 

• The action got started early with a yellow card on Colorado State’s Mia St. Casey just 58 seconds into the game following a Gamecocks’ throw-in
• Sophomore Ava Tutas gave South Carolina their first chance of the day in the ninth minute, sending a ball to the bottom left corner of the net, but was met by a save from Rams’ keeper Addison Huber
• Tutas then took a massive shot from outside the 18′ in the 20th minute that soared just over Huber’s fingertips to hit the crossbar
• The Rams would take two shots of their own that fifth-year Gamecock keeper Christina Tsaousis saved to make things 0-0 at the half
• The second half started off with a penalty kick taken by the Rams, but was converted unsuccessfully after a save from Tsaousis. It was the first PK Tsaousis faced this season.
• Immediately following the PK, Colorado State’s Mia St. Casey received a red card, forcing the Rams to play with 10 for the remainder of the game
• Following back-to-back shots from the Gamecocks in the 65th minute, a throw-in in the 66th set up senior transfer Maryn Wolf to get one past Huber in the bottom left corner and put the Gamecocks up 1-0. It was the second goal of the season for Wolf, and the fifth of her career.
• Defense was the name of the game for the remainder of the second half, with Tsaousis nabbing another save on the day to give the Gamecocks a clean sheet to end the game
• Tsaousis finished with a season-high tying four saves and a third shutout
