No. 20 Gamecocks Close Non-Conference Play with 6-1 Senior Night Win

COLUMBIA, SC – No. 20 South Carolina women’s soccer (6-1-0) defeated College of Charleston (3-3-2) 6-1 on Sunday evening for Senior Night, following a two-hour weather delay. It marked the first game with six goals since scoring the same against East Carolina in the 2024 season (Nov. 15).

  • South Carolina started strong with an early shot by senior Sydney Middaugh in the first two minutes. Middaugh responded minutes later with a goal to the bottom left from fellow senior Autumn Cayelli, putting the Gamecocks on the board.

  • College of Charleston fought back with two shots of their own, one saved by fifth-year keeper Christina Tsaousis.
  • South Carolina extended the lead with a shot struck into the net in the 14th minute from senior Cuyler Zulauf. This was Zulauf’s second of the season.
  • After an offensive back-and-forth from both teams, senior Ava Tutas finished off a sneaky behind-the-back assist from Avery Galante in the 34th minute, putting the Gamecocks up 4-0.
  • In the 38th minute, senior Sophie Johnson drilled the ball into the lower right net after a corner kick set up by Tutas to finish off the first period.
  • Reese Slater scored her first goal as a Gamecock five minutes into the second half to stretch the lead to 6-0, assisted by senior Reagan Schubach on their fourth corner kick of the match.
  • Both teams battled over the ball for the next 15 minutes, but the Cougars got on the board in the 62nd minute to make the score 6-1.
  • South Carolina dominated Charleston 22-5 in shots and 11-3 shots on goal.
