Jamel Cook

Redshirt junior defensive back who is eligible for the first time since transferring from Southern California after his sophomore season… worked at safety in the spring… has excellent size for a defensive back and is a physical player.

2018    
Joined the squad when fall camp began after transferring from Southern California… was not eligible due to NCAA transfer rules.

2017    
Practiced at safety, nickelback and corner back for the Trojans, seeing limited game action as a redshirt freshman… played in three contests, appearing in the Western Michigan, Cal and Arizona State contests… credited with one solo tackle against both Cal and ASU.

2016    
Redshirted as a first-year freshman safety in 2016… was sidelined for Southern California’s first six games of the season with a foot injury suffered in the off-season.

HIGH SCHOOL    
Graduated in 2016 from Miami (Fla.) Central High School… earned a spot on the 2015 Prep Star All-American Dream Team, USA Today All-Florida second team and Florida All-State Class 6A first team as a senior defensive back… recorded six interceptions… was a member of Miami Central’s state Class 6A championship teams in 2012, 2013 and 2014… also played basketball.

Jamel Cook is a cousin of former Florida State running back Dalvin Cook, now with the Minnesota Vikings… working on a degree in sociology.
