Derek Boykins-Brooks Bio

Freshman linebacker who enrolled in January and went through spring drills… worked at the MIKE position… was impressive in the Garnet & Black Spring Game… is an excellent athlete who showed good instincts… could play his way into reps at linebacker and on special teams early in his career.

HIGH SCHOOL    
Prepped at Central Cabarrus High School in Concord, N.C… played linebacker and running back for the Vikings… coached by Ken McClamrock… graduated in December 2018… as a senior, he led the Vikings to an 8-4 record, their best mark since 2013, posting 117 tackles, six for loss, four sacks, three interceptions, three forced fumbles, five quarterback hurries, one receiving touchdown and one blocked punt he returned for a score… multi-year starter who made 79 tackles, including eight for loss with two forced fumbles and a pair of fumble recoveries as a junior, earning Central Cabarrus’s Defensive Skill Player of the Year accolades… selected to play in the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas… earned the Spark Plug Leadership Award and was a team captain for the North Carolina squad… considered the 24th-best player in the state of North Carolina, the nation’s 32nd-best outside linebacker and No. 534 overall according to 247Sports Composite.
