South Carolina senior point guard Devan Downey propelled the Gamecocks to two victories last week. Downey scored 18 points – 17 in the first half – while adding six assists and three steals in Carolina’s victory over Longwood, which snapped a two-game South Carolina losing streak.

In Saturday’s SEC opener at Auburn, Downey scored 33 points on 11-of-23 shooting, including a 4-of-9 effort from beyond the arc. It marked Downey’s second 30-point game of the season and the fifth of his career. He also dished three assists and swiped four steals, pushing his SEC leading steal mark to 3.1 per game. The victory for South Carolina at Auburn marked Carolina’s first in an SEC opener on the road since the 1993 campaign. Downey has led Carolina in scoring for seven straight games.
