Intern with the Gamecocks

The University of South Carolina Athletics Department hosts interns throughout the year. Both full-time (for school credit) and part-time opportunities are available. All internships listed below are unpaid. Below is a summary of the internships that are available within the Athletics Department. Internship Description by Department

  • Communications & Public Relations Toggle content

    The Communications & Public Relations student assistants will assist at home games, with duties that range from helping with running stats, helping post on team social media accounts, transcribing postgame quotes, helping run press conferences, keeping notes from games, helping with game stories and feature stories and helping with official stats and scoring.

  • Development Toggle content

    This position will aid in supporting all aspects of the overall fundraising goals of South Carolina Athletics Development and gain a well-rounded experience through in the areas of Annual Giving, Major Gifts, Premium Seating and Events, and Sales. Applicants will be expected to exhibit excellent customer service skills, a positive attitude, willingness to go above prescribed responsibilities, effectively manage deadlines, and have a great attention to detail.

    Core Responsibilities:

    • Serve as a contact for current and prospective Gamecock Club donors in order to execute the department’s strategy to increase and enhance the overall experience with the Gamecock Club and Athletics department
    • Assist in the implementation of creative stewardship initiatives for annual fund and major gift donors
    • Educate, engage, and foster relationships with new and loyal Gamecock Club donors
    • Manage donor accounts through Archtics and Blackbaud CRM systems and serve as a liaison to donors with questions regarding their account, giving records, and policies and procedures of the Gamecock Club
    • Assist in developing and executing strategies for growing membership and increasing membership retention
    • Assist in the planning and operation of Gamecock Club/Development events
    • Attend home football and basketball games as necessary
    • Preform additional responsibilities as assigned
  • Event Management Toggle content

    Event Management interns will assist in the planning and successful execution of home sporting events through the coordination with internal and external user groups to ensure events are run in line with the standards of the SEC and NCAA. Fall sports include football, m/w soccer, volleyball, equestrian, cross country and m/w basketball while spring sports include m/w basketball, softball, baseball, m/w tennis, equestrian, track and beach volleyball as well as post-season hosting opportunities. Successful candidates will be a successful multitasker, an effective communicator and have the desire to learn through action.

    The Marketing Department has three different internship opportunities. Both the full-time internship and part-time internship are available year round and the part-time events only internship are available in the fall and spring.

    Full-Time Marketing Intern Responsibilities

    • Provide support to the full-time marketing staff during office hours, at events and in the community
    • Will be assigned a specific sport to assist the full-time staff in all marketing efforts, including gameday production
    • Assist in event setup, gameday promotions and sponsorship in-game fulfillment
    • Assist with on-campus student promotions as part of the Cockpit Rewards program

    Part-Time Marketing Intern Responsibilities

    • Provide support to the full-time marketing staff during office hours, at events and in the community
    • May be assigned a specific sport to assist the full-time staff in all marketing efforts, including gameday production

    Part-Time Events Only Marketing Intern Responsibilities

    • Provide support to the full-time marketing staff at events and in the community

    Qualifications/Requirements

    All Internships:

    • Great work ethic and interpersonal skills
    • Detail-oriented, motivated and able to handle multiple responsibilities at a time
    • Creativity
    • Ability to work in a team environment
    • Available to work nights and weekends

    Additional Full-time requirements:

    • Must be enrolled at a University and be receiving class credit
    • Required to work a minimum of 32 hours a week, including nights and weekends
    • Required to work a minimum of five home football games (if interning during the fall semester)

    Additional Part-time Only requirements

    • Required to work a minimum of 4 hours in the office a week

    Additional  Part-time & Part-time Events Only requirements

    • Work a minimum of three home football games (fall semester specific)
    • Work a minimum of five events per month (not including football games)
  • Ticket Sales Toggle content

    The Ticket Sales Intern will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:

    • Learn the ticket sales process
    • Creating and maintaining ticket sales department databases and spreadsheets
    • Maintain an organized profile of ticket holders and prospects
    • Research and generate group sales leads for Gamecock football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball
    • Provide customer service both in the Gamecock ticket sales office and at Gamecock athletic events
    • Assist in servicing season ticket holders and other clients
    • Make outbound calls to potential season ticket, single game and group package buyers
    • Assist the sales staff regarding their clerical duties

    Ideal candidates will have at a minimum:

    • A strong work ethic
    • Excellent communication and organizational skills
    • Ability to present him or herself well to others
    • Ability to work a minimum of 20 hours per week
    • Must be able to work a flexible schedule which will include office hours, home athletic events, special events and weekends
    • At least one year of advanced education working towards a degree in Business, Marketing, Sport Management or a related field
  • Ticket Operations Toggle content

    The Ticket Operations Intern will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:

    • Assisting ticket purchasers with orders via phone, internet, and in person
    • Processing ticket orders and payments on Archtics ticket system
    • Reconcile end of day sales
    • Assisting Gamecock Club members with our online basketball seat selection system
    • Fielding questions from Gamecock fans regarding upcoming events including on sale dates, deadlines, ticket prices, priority seating etc.
    • Work sporting events – will include working some nights and weekends

    Ideal candidates will have at a minimum:

    • Ability to work Monday – Friday and some weekends as needed (minimum of 32 hours a week)
    • Strong communication, organizational and problem solving skills required
    • Ability to work in fast-paced environment
    • Ability to handle money and make change quickly and accurately
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs
    • Working toward a degree from an accredited institution
  • Olympic Sports Nutrition Toggle content

    Our Olympic sports nutrition program oversees about 500 student-athletes competing in the SEC. We are looking to build our team by mentoring interns who have a desire to work with athletes. Our interns will support sports nutrition initiatives by providing physical presence and intern skill-level work to teams by working with the dietitian and sports performance staff.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Entering junior year or above
    • Working toward or completion of degree in programs such as Exercise Science, Public Health, Physiology, Kinesiology, Biomechanics, Nutrition, etc.
    • Available 10-20 hours per week – Non-traditional work schedule: including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays

    Sports Nutrition Intern job duties include:

    • Food inventory management
    • Menu selection for team travel
    • Food ordering
    • Cleaning/serving/stocking food nutrition station for teams
    • Serve food & fluid at practice and games
    • Collect and use data for research & evaluation
    • Communicating with team and athletes
    • Manage performance and recovery nutrition initiatives with strength & conditioning team
    • Coordinate nutrition education initiatives (such as a cooking class for the athletes)
    • Creative content development for nutrition online media and social media
    • Build relationships with teams and coaches
    • Assist in food production with dining services
    • Assist with athlete assessment (such as body composition) and testing
    • Appointment scheduling & check-ins (front & back office)

  • Olympic Sports Strength And Conditioning Toggle content

    The University of South Carolina Strength and Conditioning Department is looking for students who are pursuing a career in strength and conditioning and working toward obtaining a nationally recognized certification (CSCCa, NSCA, USAW, etc.).

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Entering junior year or above
    • Working toward or completion of degree in programs such as Exercise Science, Public Health, Physiology, Kinesiology, Biomechanics, Nutrition, etc.
    • Available 10-20 hours per week – Non-traditional work schedule: including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays
    • Able to lift at least 100lbs

    Responsibilities:

    • Set-up and break down of lifts
    • Equipment maintenance and cleaning of facilities
      Assist in day-to-day operations in any of UofSC’s four weight rooms (requires ability to transport oneself from place to place)
    • Partake in the implementation of strength and conditioning programs for multiple Olympic Sports
    • Coaching small groups and/or make-up lifts independently
    • Participation in staff meetings, scheduled intern education/demonstrations, and completion of end of semester project

  • Student Hospitality Ambassador Toggle content

    Student Hospitality Ambassadors are a vital part of game day operations in premium spaces, including, but not limited to, suites, loge suites, premium seating, and club seating throughout Williams-Brice Stadium. Ambassadors serve as the front line of South Carolina Athletics on game day and gain skills in areas of customer service, hospitality, and a future in the sports industry.
