COLUMBIA, S.C. – Nearly 50 former South Carolina men’s basketball players attended the Second Annual Gamecock Men’s Basketball Alumni Reception, which was held on Saturday, Aug. 1, at 701 Whaley St., in Columbia. The two-hour reception saw former players from several era’s of Carolina basketball return to Columbia to celebrate at the annual event.

Entering his second year at the helm of the Gamecock program, South Carolina head coach Darrin Horn talked about the importance of the alumni to the Carolina basketball family.

“The fun thing about it is, I just saw some guys from the 1950s and some guys that graduated in the 2000s,” Horn said. “It’s really a broad spectrum, and I think it shows the feeling of love that people have for Carolina. We want people to know that we reciprocate that.

“One of the things we want to do here is get everybody to believe that this place can be special,” Horn commented. “The main ingredient of that is the people. Hopefully we’ll get them feeling good about what we’re doing and have pride for Carolina and spread the good word.”
